Question: What kind of marks may not be registered?
Answer: A person may not register a mark that is deceptive, immoral, or scandalous. Also, trademarks related to a belief, an individual, an institution or a national symbol are not permitted.
Question: Do I have to be a U.S. Citizen to obtain a federal registration?
Answer:
No. However, an applicant's citizenship must be stated in the record. If an applicant is not a citizen of any country, then a statement to that effect is adequate.
Question: How long does it take for a mark to be registered?
Answer:
It is difficult to calculate how long it will take for an application to become a registration. You should receive a response from the Office within six to seven months from filing the application.
